Platform Performance

Built to be quick and reliable.

ThunderStudy AI Mind Map is designed to build a mind map quickly and to keep working when one AI model is busy. Quick overview builds a smaller map and Deep dive builds a fuller one. If a model fails, the next one steps in automatically. PDFs are read in your browser, and your saved maps stay on your device.

Generation Speed

How quickly does a mind map get built?

Speed depends on how much Thunder has to write. You choose the depth, and a focused input keeps things quick.

Quick overview
Two levels: the main branches and one layer of sub-topics, each with a short explanation. Built to be scanned in a quick revision pass.
Deep dive
Three levels, adding key facts, terms and examples under each sub-topic. It takes longer than Quick overview because there is more to write.
Focused input
A clear topic or a few relevant pages builds more smoothly than a very large block of text, so pick the part of the chapter you need.
Reliability

Why do maps rarely fail?

Thunder is built so that one busy or retired AI model does not stop you from getting your map.

Automatic model fallback
Thunder uses Groq models in an ordered chain. If a model is busy, retired or returns an error, the next one is tried automatically.
Automatic retry
If the AI returns a map that cannot be read, the request is retried once with stricter instructions before you ever see an error.
Readable by design
Maps are kept to a sensible number of branches and sub-topics, so they stay clear and generation stays predictable.
On Your Device

What runs on my device?

Much of the work happens in your own browser, so there is less to wait for and nothing to sign in to.

PDF reading in your browser
The text of your PDF chapter is read on your device. Only the text from the pages you choose is sent to Thunder to build the map.
Maps saved on your device
My Maps lives in your browser, so opening a saved map does not wait on a server and does not need an account.
Exports built in your browser
PDF, standalone HTML and the study booklet are created on your device from the map you already have.
Why Limits Exist

Why are there daily and weekly limits?

Keeping the free AI available for every student means sharing it fairly. Fair use is 3 maps a day and 12 a week, tracked in your browser.

FAQ

Common questions

Which is faster, Quick overview or Deep dive?
Quick overview. It builds 2 levels, so Thunder has less to write and the map is ready sooner. Deep dive builds 3 levels, so it takes longer and gives you more detail.
What happens if an AI model is busy or fails?
Thunder runs on Groq models in an ordered chain. If one model is busy, retired or returns an error, the next one is tried automatically, so maps rarely fail.
Why did my PDF map use only part of the text?
To keep generation fast, a PDF map uses up to 15 pages, and the text taken from them is capped at 9,000 characters. Choose the page range that matters most.
Where are my saved maps stored?
In your own browser, on your device, in My Maps. Opening a saved map does not need an account or a server.
Does it work offline?
Partly. Pages and saved maps you have already opened can load without a connection. Building a new mind map needs an internet connection.
