Is ThunderStudy AI Mind Map really free?
Yes. There is one plan, Free Forever, and it includes every feature. There is no paid tier, no card and no hidden catch. Only a fair-use limit of 3 maps a day and 12 a week applies.
Do I need to create an account?
No. Open the app, choose how to start and generate a mind map. There is no sign-up, and your saved maps and your daily and weekly count are kept on your own device.
What can I turn into a mind map?
You can type a topic, paste your notes, upload a text-based PDF chapter (up to 15 pages) or paste a YouTube link that has a transcript available. You can also upload a photo of your notes, which is read in your browser. Thunder, the AI, then builds the map and writes a short explanation for every node.
What is the difference between Quick overview and Deep dive?
Quick overview builds 2 levels, the main branches and one layer of sub-topics, so it is fast to scan for a quick revision. Deep dive builds 3 levels, adding key facts, terms and examples under each sub-topic, for more detail.
Which exams and subjects does it work for?
It is built for CUET, SSC and Banking preparation, and it works for any subject or topic you give it. If you can type it, paste it or upload it, Thunder can map it.
What are the free presets?
Presets are ready-made mind maps you can open without using a daily or weekly map. There are three: SSC CGL Full Syllabus, CUET General Test and Banking Awareness. Open the Presets tab in the app to browse them.
How many mind maps can I make?
Up to 3 maps a day and 12 a week. The counts are tracked in your browser. The daily count resets once a day at midnight UTC (5:30 AM in India), and the weekly count resets after 7 days. The limit keeps the free AI available for every student.
Where are my saved maps stored?
In My Maps, inside your own browser on your device. Nothing is saved to an account, so clearing your browser data, or switching to another browser or device, means your saved maps will not be there. Export a map if you want a copy to keep.
How can I export or download a map?
You can export to PDF, download a standalone HTML file that opens in any browser, or create a one-topic-per-page study booklet. The study booklet uses the short explanation written for every node.
What are the PDF page and text limits?
A PDF map uses up to 15 pages, and you can choose the page range. To keep generation fast, the text taken from the pages is capped at 9,000 characters. Scanned PDFs with no selectable text are not supported, so use a text-based PDF.
Are AI-generated mind maps always correct?
No. Thunder is an AI, so it can make mistakes or leave things out. Check important facts, dates and figures against your textbook or official exam material, especially before an exam.
Are my uploaded PDFs private?
Your PDF file stays on your device and is read in your browser. Only the text taken from the pages you chose is sent to the AI service to write the map, and the site does not keep an account or a library of your files. Avoid uploading anything private or confidential.
Does the site work offline?
Partly. Pages and saved maps you have already opened can load without a connection, and you will see an offline page when something is not available. Building a new mind map needs an internet connection.
Does the site show ads?
No. This site does not show or sell ads.
